The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission offers free hunting safety courses.

NOTE: North Carolina sets no minimum age for taking a hunter education course. The courses are based on a sixth- grade learning level. The students must pass a written exam and a firearms handling proficiency test unassisted. Please be aware of these requirements before registering young children for hunter safety courses.

  • Internet courses are available for those that cannot attend a regular class.
  • Internet courses must be completed before signing up for an Internet Course Field Day Event.
  • Internet Course Field Day Events must also be completed and a final exam satisfactorily passed before a hunting license can be purchased.
